Education should never be a political tool, Secretary for Education Eddie Ng says, adding neither the school setting nor the learning and teaching environment should ever be politicised.
Mr Ng made the statement in response to students' claims that a sister school scheme between Hong Kong and the Mainland is turning education into a political tool.
The education chief explained that the sister school scheme has been running for several years. Based on positive feedback from principals, teachers, students and parents, the Government decided to provide further resources to optimise the scheme in this year's Policy Address, he said.
He emphasised that participation is voluntary and the schools organise the scheme.
