CS refutes talent list

January 16, 2015

A talent list circulating online and published in some newspapers is not the talent list mentioned in the Policy Address, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says.

She told reporters today the Government has not yet drawn up a list.

The Population Policy Steering Committee has recommended studying the feasibility of formulating a talent list, but a study has not yet started.

She said formulating an objective and transparent talent list is a complex task, requiring a full understanding of the city’s economic development prospects.

The Government will accord priority to nurturing local youths, and building a talent pool through continuing education and training. However, it is necessary to recruit as many global talents as possible to broaden Hong Kong's economic base and diversify the economy.

The Government will study, having regard to overseas experiences, the feasibility of drawing up a talent list to attract high-quality talent.

The Labour & Welfare Bureau will start the work and will consult the public.
