The Social Welfare Department announced today the requirement for elderly welfare applicants’ relatives to make a financial statement will be abolished from February 1.
Under the current Comprehensive Social Security Assistance scheme, the relatives of elderly applicants must declare in a statement that they will not provide financial support to the elderly.
The abolition of the so-called bad-son statement was announced in the recent 2017 Policy Address.
After the policy change, only the elderly applicants are required to make the statement.
CSSA applicants or recipients may contact their respective social security field units or call 2343 2255 for enquiries.
