Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury James Lau visited elderly households and needy families in Southern District today in his first community visit since taking office.

As part of the Celebrations for All project, Mr Lau visited nine families living in Shek Pai Wan Estate.

He distributed gift packs to them to share the joy of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Mr Lau later met Southern District Council members to deepen his understanding of residents’ needs.

They discussed financial technology development and funding arrangements for district projects.

Mr Lau also stopped by Ap Lei Chau Main Street to visit a dried seafood store and a traditional bakery to get an update on their businesses since the opening of the MTR South Island Line.

He said he was happy to connect with local citizens and will visit other districts to stay in touch with the community.
