Beijing backs policy agenda

President Xi Jinping has affirmed the Hong Kong Government’s achievements, adding its policy agenda direction is right to meet social needs, Chief Executive CY Leung says.

 

Speaking to the media, Mr Leung said he briefed Mr Xi on Hong Kong’s latest political, economic and social situation, in a meeting today.

 

“I am quite happy to discuss the progress that we made so far on the basis of, for example, the list of achievements of the present-term Government that we published on July 1, where there is the question of housing, poverty alleviation or other key policy agenda areas of the Government.”

 

Mr Leung said he will continue to develop the economy, improve people’s livelihood and conduct the political reform consultation.

 

He said duty visits will enable him and his policy secretaries to meet Mainland ministers. He and Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So held talks with the Minister of Commerce today.

 

Mr Leung will visit the National Development & Reform Commission tomorrow with Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung, and the Ministry of Finance with Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan.

 

Mr Leung said he did not discuss the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance court ruling with the Central Government.
