CE meets Premier Li

December 17, 2013

Chief Executive CY Leung met Premier Li Keqiang and National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhang Dejiang in Beijing today.

Speaking to the media after the meetings, Mr Leung said Mr Li said Hong Kong may be affected by external financial changes in the coming year, and he reminded the Hong Kong Government to prepare for the possibility.

If this situation occurred, Mr Li said the Central Government would support Hong Kong to stabilise the economy.

Mr Leung said the Central Government affirmed the Hong Kong Government’s work during the year, and will continue to support its administration of Hong Kong according to the law.

The Chief Executive said Mr Zhang reiterated the Central Government whole-heartedly supports the 2017 Chief Executive Election and the 2016 Legislative Council Election.

Mr Zhang hopes the Hong Kong Government can conduct the political reform consultation smoothly to complete the five-step process to attain universal suffrage for the Chief Executive Election in 2017.

Mr Leung said both meetings were useful, and he also raised issues on the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and the liberalisation of trade in services.
