Filibustering wasting public money

February 05, 2015

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So has urged lawmakers to stop hindering discussions on the funding application to establish the new Innovation & Technology Bureau.

Speaking to reporters after a Legislative Council Finance Committee meeting today, Mr So said the filibustering is wasting time and public money.

He said the Government has followed procedure in seeking funds and the proposal has been thoroughly discussed for over a year, during which legislators have had many opportunities to ask questions.

He said the proposal is tied in with the 2014-15 Estimates and according to the normal process, the time limit to finish the procedure is the current financial year, meaning February 14 is the deadline.
