Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan says the Government did not intend to bypass the Legislative Council Finance Committee by withdrawing four funding items from the committee's agenda.
Speaking to reporters today, Prof Chan said the projects withdrawn will be included in the upcoming Budget's estimates of expenditure for consideration.
He said the four projects did not involve important policies, and the move will not affect the projects' implementation schedule.
Prof Chan said the committee has considered very few items in the past three months, and as such many funding proposals may not be passed within this financial year.
He added the Government has made similar moves in the past, and said it needs to be flexible to complete as many funding proposals as possible.
