Mid-autumn Festival
Giant lantern lights up Victoria Park

A giant lantern, believed to be the world's largest, made its debut at the opening ceremony of the Tourism Board's Mid-autumn Lantern Celebration in Victoria Park on Sunday evening.

The giant lantern is one of the highlights of the celebration. With a diameter of 35 metres it is a hybrid of traditional Chinese and contemporary design concepts.

Night lights: The Tourism Board's Mid-autumn Lantern Celebration in Victoria Park features a giant lantern which is believed to be the world's largest, plus a hot-air balloon and numerous other lantern displays.

Small lanterns featuring the Chinese horoscope and a 360-degree multimedia show will be staged inside the giant lantern, and there will be a wishing well in the middle.

The celebration, running until September 16 in Victoria Park, also sees various lantern displays by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and HK Disneyland as well as a wishing lantern trail.

Visitors can also experience the excitement of riding in a hot air balloon.

Officiating guests included Secretary for Economic Development & Labour Stephen Ip, Tourism Board Executive Director Clara Chong and Acting Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Choi Suk-kuen.
