Kenneth Chen visits Sichuan schools

*

Under Secretary for Education Kenneth Chen today attended the opening of the new education year at two schools in Mianyang Municipality in Sichuan, which have been rebuilt after their destruction in the 2008 earthquake.

More than 60 school reconstruction projects supported by the Hong Kong Government will soon be completed. Students who suffered in the calamity two years ago will soon resume their normal school life, he said.

The reconstruction of Mianyang Secondary School and Santai County First Secondary School took nearly two years. The new schools have integrated laboratory complexes, student hostels, canteens, libraries and playgrounds.

Yesterday Mr Chen visited Jintang County YMCA Hong Kong School, which is still under construction, and was briefed on its progress.
