Russian royal expo to open

October 28, 2014

The Museum of History will show exhibits from the collections of the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum-Preserve of Russia from tomorrow until March 16.

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing opened the exhibition today, noting that it represents a major collaboration between government museums in Russia and Hong Kong.

The two governments signed a memorandum of understanding on cultural co-operation in 2011.

Exhibits include paintings, costumes, porcelain, works of art and a spectacular carriage, which will show Russian history and culture, as well as the long-lasting exchanges between Russia and China.

There will also be multimedia programmes, such as Catherine Palace being presented in a 360-degree virtual reality zone, showing eight of its rooms in life size, including the Amber Room, which has been acclaimed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will perform three concerts of Russian music on November 16, December 28, and February 8.
