The Museum of Coastal Defence will hold an exhibition on the Hong Kong Military Service Corps' history from tomorrow until June 11, displaying 70 artifacts and historical photos of the British Army unit.
The corps recruited and trained 6,000 soldiers locally between 1962 and 1993. It was originally named the Hong Kong Chinese Training Unit, which was established after the Second World War.
Before their role ended in 1997, the corps carried out rescue services during typhoons in the 1960s and after landslides on Kotewall Road and in Kwun Tong in 1972, conducted anti-illegal immigrant operations along the Hong Kong-China border, and supported Police during the 1967 riots.
They also participated in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus in 1991 during the Gulf War.
The museum is located at 175 Tung Hei Road, Shau Kei Wan. Admission is $10.
