Holiday reminder issued

August 14, 2015

The Labour Department today reminded employers to grant staff a statutory holiday on September 3.

The day has been designated as a statutory holiday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression.

If an employer requires an employee to work on a statutory holiday, they should arrange for an alternative holiday to be taken by the employee within 60 days before or after the statutory holiday, as stipulated by the ordinance. At least two days' notice must be given to the employee.

If both parties agree, any day within 30 days before or after the statutory or alternative holiday can be arranged as a substituted holiday.
