The Security Bureau rallied 56 staff from its six disciplined forces to help seniors living alone with their traditional Lunar New Year house cleaning.

The volunteers included staff from the Correctional Services, Fire Services, Customs and Immigration departments, and the Police and Government Flying Service.

A 63-year-old woman with mobility problems said she was grateful for the volunteers’ help and that they took the time to chat with her.

Fire Services Department Volunteer Team Leader Terence Ng said it was the first time all six disciplined forces under the bureau had carried out volunteer work together.

Mr Ng added that it was a good chance for them to contribute to the community.

The volunteers had earlier visited 19 single elderly people living in eight public housing estates, Home Ownership Scheme flats and private buildings in Sham Shui Po, Cheung Sha Wan and Shek Kip Mei.

The volunteers’ efforts are part of the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign aimed at showcasing Hong Kong’s strengths and encouraging society to work together for the city.
