Lau Kong-wah greets Jao Tsung-i

February 05, 2016

Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah visited the Hong Kong University Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole today to extend his early Lunar New Year greetings to Prof Jao Tsung-i, the great master of Chinese studies.

"The HKSAR Government offers its best regards to Prof Jao just before the start of the Lunar New Year. We wish Prof Jao good health and all the best in the coming year," Mr Lau said.

"It is also an auspicious time to give our heartfelt thanks to Prof Jao, who has staged the exhibition 'Reminiscences of Hong Kong by the Brush: A Celebration of the 100th Birthday of Professor Jao Tsung-i' at Hong Kong Central Library last year. This exhibition celebrated the centenary of the birth of Prof Jao, and the general public has thus been able to admire Prof Jao's academic and arts achievements."

The exhibition was presented by the Home Affairs Bureau and featured more than 100 selected works by Prof Jao. It was the largest and most wide-ranging exhibition on his works ever held in Hong Kong.

Another exhibition on Prof Jao's artistic attainments was also held at the National Museum of China in Beijing. The exhibition displayed more than 100 paintings in various genres, about 40 calligraphy works, and more than 20 works made in collaboration with contemporary renowned artists and artworks derived from his calligraphy and paintings.
