Airport security assured

April 17, 2016

The Government says it understands the public's concern about aviation security and reassures that it attaches great importance to security at the airport.

It issued the statement in response to a sit-in at the airport today.

It said aviation security measures meet International Civil Aviation Organisation standards.

According to the organisation's requirements, all people, including passengers, staff and crew, as well as their held and cabin baggage, must undergo security checks before they board.

On the handling of a passenger's baggage on March 28, the statement said it had undergone stringent security checks before it was carried aboard the aircraft. Security requirements were fulfilled and the aircraft's safety was unaffected.

The Airport Authority will submit a report on the case to the Government and follow-up action will be taken as necessary.

The Government will continue to ensure aviation safety and work with operators at the airport to uphold safety, reliability and efficiency, the statement added.
