No airport security breach: CAD

April 10, 2016

The Civil Aviation Department today responded to the unfounded allegation that the handling of a passenger’s cabin baggage on March 28 was not in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s security requirements.

In a statement, the department said the cabin baggage had undergone stringent security checks before it was carried on board the aircraft. The relevant security requirement was fulfilled and the aircraft’s safety was not affected.

Hong Kong has all along been strictly following the requirements of the international organisation on aviation security in which all persons, including passengers, staff and crew, and their baggage are required to undergo security check prior to their entry into the departure restricted area of the Hong Kong International Airport to safeguard aviation security, it added.

According to information available to the department, the cabin baggage owner’s identity was confirmed and the baggage had gone through security checks prior to entering the departure restricted area.
