Flat selling aids circulation: CE

January 14, 2015

Chief Executive CY Leung says selling new public rental housing flats to Green Form applicants can facilitate flat circulation, which is more beneficial than selling to other people.

In a Policy Address television forum tonight, Mr Leung said Green Form applicants buying under the scheme are required to hand back the flat they are living in, which releases more flats for allocation to families on the waiting list.

He said housing supply must be increased to solve Hong Kong’s housing problem, and the Government has been working hard to boost land supply for residential development.

Speaking on measures to improve middle class living standards, Mr Leung said the Government will combine the resources of the Housing Society, the Urban Renewal Authority and the Settlers Housing Corporation to provide a variety of subsidised housing.

The Government has been closely monitoring the market situation and will consider launching more demand-management measures if society wishes and if the Legislative Council agrees, he said.

Speaking on youth development opportunities, Mr Leung said the Government strives to diversify the economy to provide more career opportunities.

Society needs to develop more new industries to satisfy the talents and needs of different young people to enhance their career development, he added.
