The Tourism Commission, in co-operation with relevant government departments and the local travel industry, has drawn up plans to prepare for Mainland visitor arrivals during the Chinese New Year Golden Week holiday from February 18 to 24.
The Tourism Commission has set up a mechanism with the Guangdong and Shenzhen counterparts for information exchange and emergency handling.
The Government will enhance manpower and co-ordinate transport and cross-boundary services. A joint command centre will be activated to monitor the situation at land control points and take contingency action where necessary.
Travellers are urged to avoid crossing the boundary during the morning and evening peak hours. Mainland visitors are reminded to confirm their accommodation arrangements prior to arrival.
Law enforcement departments will step up inspection of retail shops targeting group tours, while major tourist attractions will extend opening hours and implement crowd-control arrangements.
