Gutter oil probe continues

September 07, 2014

The Centre for Food Safety continues its investigations into the Taiwan "gutter oil" incident and has confirmed that Urban Food Limited was a supplier of the affected oil Chang Guann Co Ltd produced - CG Fragrant Lard Oil - to Maxim's Cakes.

The other affected product, Ho Chiang Fragrant Lard Oil, has not yet been detected in Hong Kong.

Urban Food Limited had been recalling the affected products while the centre had taken product samples for testing as well as marked and sealed them.

Three other importing companies - Dah Chong Hong Limited, Synergy Foods Limited and Angliss Hong Kong Food Service Limited - had bought other kinds of lard oil products produced by the same manufacturer.

The centre had instructed the three companies to mark and seal their inventories, in addition to a product recall.

A total 46 samples of lard and food products had been taken for tests so far, in which one mooncake sanple passed the tests while other sample testing is underway.
