The Hospital Authority and Fire Services Department today conducted an exercise simulating the transfer and handling of a suspected Ebola patient.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, the authority’s Chief Manager Dr Liu Shao-haei said the exercise went smoothly and successfully tested the preparedness of the 70 frontline staff who took part.

The drill involved the identification of a suspected Ebola patient in Fanling, who was sent by ambulance to North District Hospital.

He was then transferred by ambulance to the authority’s Infectious Disease Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Healthcare workers also simulated first aid, treatment, the process of disposing of bodies, wearing protective gear and adopting strict infection control measures.

The authority will review the exercise and make improvements, Dr Liu added.
