August 10, 2012
Tiangong-1/Shenzhou-9 astronauts Jing Haipeng, Liu Wang, and Liu Yang have thanked Hong Kong people for their care and support during and after their space mission.
Meeting the media today during their four-day Hong Kong visit, Jin Haipeng said this is the third time he has visited the city, and he can feel the people’s welcome, care, and support.
He said he cried several times during the mission, including when Shenzhou-9 launched, when President Hu Jintao talked to them via video link, and when he stepped off the capsule after it landed on earth.
He wished Hong Kong people good health, and that the city becomes more beautiful.
Liu Wang said he flew over Hong Kong several times while in space, and said he had wished to visit the city in person. He said he will shop for his family during his stay.
China’s first woman astronaut Liu Yang said she is honoured to represent millions of women by conducting the space mission, saying she treasures life and her experiences in space.
She said other women can also complete space missions, and expects them to play an important role in China’s space exploration.
