Gregory So outlines bureau duties

November 10, 2015

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So today briefed the media on how the Commerce & Economic Development Bureau will operate after the establishment of the Innovation & Technology Bureau on November 20.

Two of the nine departments under the Commerce & Economic Development Bureau will now come under the new bureau. They are the Innovation Technology Commission and the Office of the Chief Information Officer.

Mr So said the new bureau will allow the Commerce & Economic Development Bureau to focus more on commerce and tourism issues, with seven departments and 11 Economic & Trade Offices remaining under it.

The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau will help the business sector capitalise on the opportunities emerging from the Mainland's Belt & Road initiatives and strengthen the development of creative industries and startups, he added.
