InnoTech bureau set for Nov 20

Chief Executive CY Leung says the Government will establish an Innovation & Technology Bureau on November 20.

 

Speaking to reporters before the Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung said the Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So will brief the media on his bureau’s new priorities, after transferring his bureau’s innovation and technology portfolio to the new bureau.

 

Officers from new bureau will also brief the media on their priorities and working plan after the bureau’s establishment.

 

Mr Leung also said the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has announced that it will establish an innovation node in Hong Kong, showing that the institute attaches great importance to Hong Kong’s capability and potential in innovation.

 

The initiative will bring Hong Kong’s youth opportunities to exchange and learn from the best innovators in the world, Mr Leung said, boosting Hong Kong’s innovative capabilities.

 

He added that Hong Kong still has much work to do in innovation and technology, but the outlook is bright.
