3 fined for illegal waste

April 12, 2017

A Hong Kong Housing Society's contractor and sub-contractor as well as a transportation company were fined $80,000 in total by Fanling Magistracy today for illegally dumping construction waste.

The Environmental Protection Department found bulky concrete blocks were deposited near Kingswood Villas in Tin Shui Wai last year.

The waste was generated from the demolition works at the society's construction site in Sham Shui Po.

The defendants were convicted for violating the Waste Disposal Ordinance.

The department said it is an offence to dispose of waste in public places or on government land or without the permission of land owners.

The maximum penalty for first-time offenders is six-months' jail and a $200,000 fine.
