Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung opened the "Together • Progress • Opportunity - Exhibition in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Return of Hong Kong to the Motherland" in Guangzhou today.

Organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Guangdong, Mr Cheung said the exhibition shows how Hong Kong and the Mainland have worked together in fields like trade, technology, infrastructure, culture, sports and disaster relief, to build closer bilateral ties.

Through the extensive use of 3D exhibits and photos, the exhibition highlights the dual advantages of Hong Kong under "one country, two systems" and pinpoints the city's achievements in the past two decades.

Mr Cheung also officiated at a gala dinner in celebration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's 20th anniversary, which was attended by Mainland officials and other guests.

Earlier in the day Mr Cheung met senior Guangdong officials to discuss the development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.

He thanked the Guangdong Provincial Government for promoting co-operation between the province and Hong Kong.

Mr Cheung also met Hong Kong entrepreneurs and students in Guangdong to learn about their lives on the Mainland, and listened to their views on developing the bay area.

He said Hong Kong and Guangdong have embarked on multi-level co-operation, not only in trade, finance, innovation and technology and professional services, but also in cross-boundary infrastructure, water supply, food, education, environmental protection and youth co-operation.

The two sides will collaborate to capitalise on the development of the National 13th Five-Year Plan and the development of the bay area in building a world-class city cluster, he added.
