Election briefing held

November 17, 2016

Electoral Affairs Commission Chairman Justice Barnabas Fung briefed candidates of the Election Committee Subsector Ordinary Elections today on conducting electioneering activities.

He said the election will be held on December 11 and a total of 1,539 valid nomination forms were received during the nomination period.

Polls will not be held for 13 subsectors and sub-subsectors, as the number of validly nominated candidates does not exceed the number of Election Committee members allocated.

Polls will be conducted for 25 subsectors and sub-subsectors in which there are contested elections.

Justice Fung also briefed candidates on the arrangements for polling and counting of votes.

"To ensure voters understand the proper voting procedure, the Registration & Electoral Office will send a guide on the voting procedure to voters along with the poll card at least five days before polling day."

Once the poll is closed, ballot boxes of the ordinary polling stations and the dedicated polling stations will be delivered to the central counting station at AsiaWorld-Expo.

Election results will be announced at the station's media centre.
