The Government has all along attached importance to the personal safety of Hong Kong residents and will resolutely safeguard their rights and freedoms in accordance with the law.
Acting Chief Executive John Tsang gave these remarks today in response to media enquiries on the Causeway Bay bookseller case.
He said the Government has all along been dealing with matters relating to Hong Kong strictly in accordance with the principle of "one country, two systems" and the Basic Law.
He added that Mainland and overseas law enforcement agencies do not have the authority to enforce laws in Hong Kong, and they will contravene Hong Kong laws if they do so.
