Chief Executive CY Leung says the Police have written to the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department asking to meet with bookseller Lee Bo for further clarification on the incident.
Speaking ahead of an Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung said officers had contacted Mrs Lee after receiving a written reply to their enquiries about her husband yesterday, and had issued a press release to announce the latest development.
Questioned on whether the mutual notification mechanism between the Mainland police and Hong Kong police is effective, the Chief Executive noted there have been other cases where it has taken longer for Mainland authorities to respond.
Mr Leung added that both he and the Government are highly concerned about the case and acknowledged that the community is equally concerned about it.
