Chief Executive CY Leung has congratulated the Hong Kong Institute of Education, which will be retitled the Education University of Hong Kong.
The Legislative Council today passed the Hong Kong Institute of Education (Amendment) Bill 2016.
It will be gazetted on May 27, and the institute will be retitled on that day.
Mr Leung said: "I sincerely congratulate the council, the president, teachers, students and alumni of HKIEd. Their hard work over the years is finally bearing fruit. I believe they will make a greater contribution to the development of education in Hong Kong."
