Advocating Hong Kong’s independence violates the “one country, two systems” principle and the Basic Law, and the Department of Justice will investigate any independence bid that breaks the law, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says.
Speaking to reporters today, Mrs Lam said any discussion on the issue would only detract from the city’s efforts to address legitimate issues, adding that work should be devoted instead to improving people’s livelihood as the Hong Kong economy will face a downslide this year.
