Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have arrested a man in a village house in Wong Keng Tei, Sai Kung, and seized electronic products worth about $3 million.

This morning, Special Task Force officers found several suspected smugglers in the village moving goods from the village house to a motorboat on the seashore, which then transferred them to two nearby speedboats.

The officers swooped, seizing 235 cartons of electronic goods including 928 notebooks, 1,152 computer hard disks, and 7,760  monitors. They arrested the man in the village house, believed to have been used as a smuggling syndicate's warehouse.

The 29-year-old man claimed to be a construction worker.

People are urged to report any suspected smuggling activities through Customs 24-hour hotline, 2545 6182. The maximum penalty for smuggling is a $2 million fine and seven years in prison.
