91 caught in anti-triad operation

Police have arrested 91 people, aged 16 to 79, in a crackdown on triad and drug activity.

 

The operation started in February. Yesterday, officers raided numerous locations and arrested 54 men and 37 women for drug trafficking, bookmaking, loan-sharking, operating an unlawful gambling establishment, unlawful gambling, selling contraband cigarettes, weapon possession and triad offences.

 

Forty-one men and 34 women have been released on bail.

 

Police seized $350,000 in cash, $190,000 worth of betting slips, $260,000 in soccer betting chips, $39,000 worth of contraband cigarettes, two choppers and a machete in the operation. About 7.5g of heroin and 12 Midazolam tablets worth $4,500 was also found.
