Six arrested in Mei Foo Sun Chuen abduction case

*
Hong Kong Police

Police have arrested five men and a woman in connection with the abduction of a 49-year-old man who was strapped with an explosive and told to withdraw $5 million from a bank.

The suspects, aged between 24 and 38, were arrested in Yau Ma Tei around midnight.

During the operation, Police found another pistol, the second one related to the case.

The victim was abducted from Tuen Mun on Wednesday, and taken to Mount Sterling Mall at Mei Foo Sun Chuen yesterday.

His captors had taped an improvised explosive device to him, and one of them escorted him to a bank in the mall and ordered him to withdraw the money.

Bank staff felt suspicious and called Police. The escort  fled.

Police helped the victim remove the device which was later defused by Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau officers.

A search found a van, reported missing, in a car park behind the bank. Inside it was a pistol.

Investigations by the Organised Crime & Triad Bureau are proceeding.
