Reliability enhancement set for cable car
*
Electrical & Mechanical Services Department

Ngong Ping 360 has begun implementing measures to enhance the operating reliability of the cable car service, the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department says.

The department today said the cause of yesterday's incident was the dislodgement of a driving belt from the normal position at one of the non-linear belt/pulley assemblies at the Nei Lak Shan Angle Station, resulting in incorrect cabin separation within the station. The incorrect cabin separation activated an alarm and stopped the cable's operation.

After the cable car was put through a trial run this morning, department staff checked all the assemblies. The cable car was allowed to resume operation at 10am today as the department was satisfied the assemblies were in proper working condition after the trial run.

To enhance the operating reliability, the company will install an additional tensioner to all similar belt/pulley assemblies to maintain the belt tension. Regular checking of similar assemblies in the cable car system will be enhanced.
