UN report published

*

The Home Affairs Bureau has released its second report under the Convention Against Torture & Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, online. The printed version will be published August 7.

It forms part of the combined fourth and fifth periodic reports submitted by the Central Government under the convention.

Submitted to the United Nations Committee Against Torture in June, the report covers the implementation progress on the convention since the UN hearing on the initial report in May 2000, and responds to the committee's concerns and recommendations at the last report's hearing.

The bureau said the report takes full account of the comments and views received from legislators and the community during public consultations in June 2004.

The Government will attend a hearing on the report by the committee, as members of the Chinese delegation.
