20 beaches rated 'good' this weekend

Beach Water Quality

Clean and clear: Water quality at 20 beaches has been rated 'good' by the Environmental Protection Department.

Water quality at 20 beaches has been rated 'good' for this weekend by the Environmental Protection Department.

Eleven are 'fair', including Discovery Bay, Clear Water Bay First Beach and Trio Beach, which were rated 'good' last week.

However, Kadoorie and Ma Wan Tung Wan beaches remained 'poor'.

Seven gazetted beaches - Anglers', Approach, Ting Kau, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan and Lido - are closed to swimmers year round because of poor water quality. The public is advised not to swim at these beaches.

The department also reminds that many beaches are likely to be more polluted during and after periods of heavy rain.

Therefore, it advises the public not to swim at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rain.
