Weather of April

Super spring: It was warmer and drier in last month.

Last month was much warmer and drier than usual with the mean temperature of 23.9 degrees 1.7 degrees above normal. The mean minimum temperature of 22.4 degrees ranked the fourth highest on record.

Hong Kong Observatory said the monthly rainfall of 84.5 millimetres was only about half the normal figure of 161.5 millimetres.

Meanwhile, the accumulated rainfall the first four months of the year was 159.9 millimetres, also about half the normal figure of 299.8 millimetres for the same period.

With the thunderstorm of April 8, more than 65 millimetres of rain fell, and both the Thunderstorm and Amber Rainstorm Warnings were issued for the first time this year.

Kujira was the only tropical cyclone to emerge in the western North Pacific in April.

Details of issuance and cancellation of various warnings/signals in April are summarised here, while monthly meteorological figures and departures from normal for April are shown here.
