beach water quality

Clean and clear: Water quality at 22 beaches has been rated 'good' by the Environmental Protection Department.

Water quality at 22 beaches has been rated 'good' for this weekend by the Environmental Protection Department.

Among them, Clear Water Bay First Beach and Trio Beach were rated 'fair' last week.

Nine beaches are 'fair', while Kadoorie and Ma Wan Tung Wan beaches remained 'poor'.

Seven gazetted beaches - Anglers', Approach, Ting Kau, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan and Lido - are closed to swimmers year round because of poor water quality. The public is advised not to swim at these beaches.

The department also reminds beach-goers that many beaches are likely to be more polluted during and after periods of heavy rain.

Therefore, it advises the public not to swim at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rain.
