In the swim: Water quality at 22 beaches has been rated 'good' for this weekend.
*

The Environmental Protection Department has rated water quality at 22 beaches 'good' for this weekend.

Nine beaches are 'fair', while Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach remained 'poor' and Silverstrand Beach 'very poor'.

Seven gazetted beaches - Anglers', Approach, Ting Kau, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan and Lido - are closed to swimmers year round because of poor water quality. The public is advised not to swim at these beaches.

The department also reminds beach-goers that many beaches are likely to be more polluted during and after periods of heavy rain.

Therefore, it advises the public not to swim at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rain.
