Wanchai Tower
A solar solution?: Panels with photovoltaic cells have been placed atop Wan Chai Tower to test their potential for use as a renewable energy source In Hong Kong.
*

Public feedback is being invited on a study into renewable energy technologies.

The Government has evaluated the first stage of the study, and the public can offer views on the issue by April 6.

A summary of the study findings is available at Electrical & Mechanical Services Department's website.

Views can be sent to the Department by emailing renergy@emsd.gov.hk, faxing 2890 6081, or mailing the Energy Efficiency Office, 11/F, 111 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay.

The Department commissioned a two-stage consultancy study on the Potential Applications of Renewable Energy in November 2000 to investigate the feasibility of wider application of new and renewable energy technologies in Hong Kong.

The second stage of the study involves the recently completed installation of different types of building-integrated photovoltaic panels in Wan Chai Tower.

Their performance under local weather conditions will be assessed until early 2004.
