The Salvation Army Hoi Fu Nursery School in Mong Kok will close for two weeks after the sister of one of its students came down with viral meningitis related to enterovirus infection, the Centre for Health Protection says.
The case involved a 12-day-old girl who came down with a fever May 30 and was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Her four-year-old sister has had hand, foot and mouth disease symptoms since May 26 while her mother had oral blisters on May 30.
Both children and their mother are stable. Other family members do not have symptoms.
The school earlier reported a hand, foot and mouth disease outbreak involving 14 pupils. Classes will be suspended as a precautionary measure. The centre has put the institution under medical surveillance and provided health advice to its staff.
