Job fair offers 9,400 vacancies

Labour Department

Recruitment Expo 2005 will be held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre on March 9, providing 9,400 vacancies.

 

Jointly organised by the Labour Department and the Employees Retraining Board, the expo is the largest of its kind held so far in Hong Kong in terms of the number of participating employers and vacancies offered.

 

A total of 126 employers will take part. They come from a variety of industries and trades, such as hotel and tourism, banking and financing, retail, catering, personal and business services, aviation, information technology, logistics, manufacturing and property management.

     

The vacancies cover such positions as customer service officer, shop manager, sales, merchandiser, clerk, accounts clerk, teller, beautician, restaurant manager, waiter/waitress, cook, property management officer, security guard, management trainee, logistic manager/officer, financial planner, engineer, cadet pilot, flight attendant, programmer and technician.

 

Most salaries range from $6,000 to $8,000

Monthly salaries range from $4,000 to $40,000, with most of the jobs in the range of $6,000 to $8,000.

 

Eighty-five per cent of the vacancies require Form 5 educational level or below, while 65% of them are open to job-seekers without relevant experience. About 10% of the vacancies are suitable for tertiary institutes graduates.

 

Sixteen retraining bodies will display retraining information and accept applications on the spot. A number of employers will give talks on the vacancies offered.

 

The expo will run from 10.30am to 7pm at Hall 5, Level 5, Convention & Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai. Admission is free.
