Special Schools Profile presents essential data

*

Parents looking for education services for children with special educational needs can now refer to the first Hong Kong Special Schools Profile.

The Committee on Home-School Co-operation and the Hong Kong Special Schools Council developed the profile to introduce special education in Hong Kong, referral and placement services as well as developmental paths for students.

It includes is essential information on more than 60 schools that admit students with special educational needs.

The information, collected in the 2001/02 school year, features schools' missions, service targets, facilities, teacher qualifications and curriculum and school characteristics.

Using the Profile, parents can opt for special education services to suit their children's needs. It also allows members of the public - teachers of mainstream schools, in particular - to have a better understanding of special schools' facilities and services and to seek assistance from the schools for students with special educational needs.

All secondary, primary schools and kindergartens can each obtain three copies of the Profile from their respective Regional Education Offices from next Monday, February 24, for parents and teachers to reference.

Details of the Profile will be uploaded onto the CHSC website. Copies will also be made available for public reference at District Offices of the Home Affairs Department, public libraries, REOs and CHSC Parent Centre.

For enquiries, please call the CHSC Secretariat at 2782 7610 or 2782 7641.
