Quality inspectors give kindergartens good grades

*

Elements of environmental, health and sex education are incorporated into kindergartens' curriculum, enriching students' learning with remarkable results, according to the Quality Assurance Inspection Annual Report published today.

Kindergartens also generally provide a broad learning curriculum covering physical, intellectual, linguistic, affective, aesthetic and social development.

The report is the first of its kind from the Education & Manpower Bureau, and it carries a statistical analysis of 30 kindergartens which have received quality inspections in the 2001/02 school year.

The report covers three main areas: Management & Organisation, Learning & Teaching, and Support to Children & School Ethos.

The survey results show learning activities are carefully designed to enable children to learn more effectively.

Many schools recorded good performances in children's learning, resource use, leadership, staff management, planning and administration, and school climate.

However, it recommended kindergartens pay particular attention to self-evaluation, assessment of learning experiences and curriculum organisation.

Teachers should also give children more opportunity to create and explore to boost their self-confidence.
