Academic achievement:  Outstanding students receive Government scholarships and awards for the 2015-16 academic year.

More than 6,100 outstanding students have been awarded Government scholarships for the 2015-16 academic year.

Presenting the grants at a ceremony today, Secretary for Education Eddie Ng said the total value of scholarships and awards distributed to the students amounted to $140 million.

He said the Government attaches great importance to local students advancing their studies.

Among the recipients were Peter Somogyi from Hungary, who is studying Biotechnology at the University of Hong Kong and Winky Ho who received the Talent Development Scholarship for her outstanding performance in Mechanics and Information & Communication Technology.

The scholarships and awards were presented under the Government Scholarship Fund and the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme for the 2015-16 academic year.

The scholarship fund was established in 2008 to attract outstanding local students to advance their studies at home, and meritorious non-local students to pursue higher education opportunities in Hong Kong.
