School psychologists to rise

March 12, 2016

The Government already has plans to gradually increase the number of educational psychologists for schools, Secretary for Education Eddie Ng says.

Speaking after a radio programme this morning, Mr Ng said he believed the shortage of educational psychologists was a universal problem.

He noted that one Education Bureau psychologist supports six to 10 schools and the Government aims to reduce that ratio to one psychologist to four schools.

Mr Ng said universities have increased the intake for psychology-related courses, adding that psychologists from non-governmental organisations and the private sector could also help meet the need for educational psychologists soon.
