Education chief to visit Belgium, Finland

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng will depart tomorrow for a duty visit to Belgium and Finland to strengthen Hong Kong's education ties with European Union countries and learn more about the latest developments and practices in the EU system.

 

In Brussels Mr Ng will visit and exchange views with senior officials of the European Commission Directorate General for Education & Culture.

 

He will also meet with European University Association and Academic Co-operation Association representatives, as well as French and German academics, and visit a local university.

 

Mr Ng will fly to Helsinki on May 20, where he will meet Finland's Minister of Education & Science and the Helsinki Mayor.

 

He will visit the Finnish National Board of Education as well as a number of higher education, vocational education and teacher training institutions and a local school.

 

He will also meet with members of the business sector and Hong Kong students in Finland.

 

Mr Ng will return to Hong Kong on May 24. Under Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung will be Acting Secretary during Mr Ng's absence.
