October 06, 2016

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen highlighted Hong Kong's role as the gateway between the Mainland and the world, including Thailand, at events in Bangkok today.

Leading a delegation comprising legal and dispute resolution professionals, he also promoted Hong Kong's international legal and dispute resolution services.

Opening the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's "In Style.Hong Kong" symposium, Mr Yuen said: "Hong Kong's strengths, including our unique position as the gateway to Mainland China, our rule of law, judicial independence, clean and efficient government, business-friendly environment and world-class infrastructure, are well recognised by the international community.

"So is the 'one country, two systems' policy enshrined in our constitutional document known as the Basic Law, which gives us the advantage of blooming as Asia's world city while achieving economic integration with the Mainland."

Speaking at a thematic session of the symposium, he said Hong Kong is highly regarded by the international community as an important arbitration hub, citing judicial independence, a robust legal system and world-class arbitral institutions.

Launching the Hong Kong Tourism Board's "Hong Kong Live in Bangkok" event, he said the city recorded more than 25% growth in visitor arrivals in the first seven months of this year.

Mr Yuen later met Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Ning Fukui and officiated at the "In Style.Hong Kong" Gala Dinner which featured a fashion show spotlighting the latest collections by acclaimed Hong Kong designers.
