Masked protesters still face charges

November 06, 2014

Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui has warned that protesters cannot escape legal liability by wearing masks. He also condemned those who repeatedly dazzled officers with mobile phone torchlights last night.

Mr Hui told a press briefing this afternoon that there were protesters wearing masks who had travelled on the MTR, which could cause anxiety or disturbance to other passengers.

At least five protesters were arrested in Mong Kok and Admiralty during scuffles, and for dashing onto the road last night - which he described as a reckless act.

Mr Hui reiterated that the risk of disputes and confrontations is rising and that people should avoid protest areas.

Officers are also concerned about the tendency for people not to abide by the law, after protesters stole a number of police road barriers and placed them in the road to block traffic.
